Biography
Sarah Janes
Her work explores how dreams have served throughout history as gateways to healing, divine communication, initiation, and the evolution of human consciousness. As an enthusiastic lucid dreamer since childhood, Janes has devoted years to recovering the forgotten practices of dream incubation and temple sleep from ancient Egypt, Greece, and the Near East.
She is the author of Initiation into Dream Mysteries: Drinking from the Pool of Mnemosyne, an exploration of ancient dream traditions that combines historical research with practical methods for cultivating lucid dreaming, hypnagogia, and sacred dreaming. Her work traces the role of dreams in the Mystery Schools, the Asklepian healing temples, and the religious and philosophical traditions of antiquity, presenting dreaming as both a transformative spiritual discipline and a path toward greater self-knowledge.
Sarah is the co-director and curator of Dream Palace Athens, where she leads retreats and pilgrimages to ancient Greek dream incubation sanctuaries. She is also the creator and host of Explorers Egyptology, an educational lecture series featuring leading Egyptologists, historians, and researchers of the ancient world. Her collaborations have included work with biologist Rupert Sheldrake, the British Pilgrimage Trust, and New Hermopolis in Egypt to help revive the ancient practice of sacred dreaming within contemporary culture.
Known for weaving together mythology, consciousness studies, archaeology, comparative religion, and contemplative practice, Janes presents dreams not simply as psychological phenomena but as profound experiences that have shaped civilization, inspired religious traditions, and offered humanity a bridge between the visible and invisible worlds. Her work continues to inspire students seeking to rediscover the transformative power of dreams through both historical scholarship and direct experience.
