Brian Cotnoir

Combining decades of practical laboratory experience with a lifelong engagement in art, philosophy, and historical research, Cotnoir approaches alchemy as both a sacred science of transformation and a living creative practice rooted in the classical Western tradition.

A longtime student of Hermetic philosophy, Brian first published on alchemy in Parachemy, the journal of Frater Albertus' Paracelsus Research Society, and has since authored numerous acclaimed works, including Practical Alchemy: A Guide to the Great Work, On Alchemy: Essential Practices and Making Art as Alchemy, Alchemy: The Poetry of Matter, The Emerald Tablet, The Weiser Concise Guide to Alchemy, and an extensive collection of influential Alchemical Zines. Through his publishing house, Khepri Press, he continues to produce beautifully crafted books, translations, and educational works that bridge historical scholarship with practical Hermetic philosophy.

Cotnoir's teaching emphasizes that alchemy extends far beyond the pursuit of physical transmutation. Rather, he presents it as a discipline concerned with understanding the universal processes of creation, transformation, imagination, and consciousness.
